About me
I graduated from the Chippendale International School of Furniture in July 2023, and am currently based in the Myreside Studios at Chippendale. I hope to continue to make more furniture in a similar style to my first few pieces. I also make many smaller objects and can be found at Leith Market in Edinburgh.
Over the years I’ve always enjoyed pursuing creativity. I grew up in Norway and regularly tinkered with small projects in my dad’s little workshop at home. At school I took Design and Technology for several years, and discovered the wonder that is woodworking.
During the summer holidays I often did carpentry work experience, and found the same joy in building. During summer of 2022 I applied to The Chippendale International School of Furniture, after having completed a degree in Archaeology and Ancient History and done various different jobs during covid.
My projects
Rustic Benches
My first pieces of furniture that I ever made was this pair of rustic benches. The two are a modern spin on the traditional rustic bench, with interlocking joinery that makes them fully flat-packable. The benches are made out of ash and elm, and the components can even be swapped between the two if desired.
The benches also come with their own pair of mallets (also ash and elm) so that they can be taken apart.
The Corner Cabinet
Another one of my earliest pieces, the Cherry Corner Cabinet is inspired by an original in my parent’s home in Norway. The original is from 1812 and is still in good condition to this day. The 3-sided front continues to be an aesthetically appealing design in the modern day. These cabinets are practical to fit into the corner of a living room and used to display family portraits or heirlooms, and can easily store glasses or bottles or other household items.
The cabinet is made from a combination of solid American red cherry and veneered panels. It has some beautiful unique features like the large mouldings on the top and in the middle, as well as a couple of turned columns to support the front shelf. The open middle shelf is perfect for displaying family photos or perhaps a whisky decanter.
Side tables
A great addition to any living room, this stylish pair of side tables are ideal for having by your couch and placing a cup of tea on. This pair in particular have a shelf included underneath so the user can store books or other small items.
These tables are made entirely from American white oak, giving them a lovely solid feel and displaying some beautiful natural grain patterns. The heavy chamfers on the top also gives these tabels a sleak and modern feel.
Corner Stool
This is a piece that is also inspired by traditional furniture that I have grown up with. Triangular stools are quite rare and unique, and make for an interesting addition to any home. This stool is made entirely from American red cherry, and has some carved features around the sides which resemble a key-hole.
The stool is a comfortable height to sit on, but could also be used as a decorative side table or plant stand. The grain is beautifully figured and natural, making the piece feel more unique and authentic.
Traditional Shoe Rack
One of my most recent projects was this shoe rack, made to fit a client’s cloak-room and with a special section on the end to store tall welly-boots. This design is elegant and simple, and allows for plenty of room to store big hiking shoes and boots. The section on the end also has a solid seat on top, allowing the user to take a seat whilst pulling on their shoes.
The project is made entirely from solid American white oak, and has decorative panels on the sides to display more of the amazing grain this wood has.
